There were flying machines, psychic powers, and a whole world to explore. ![]() A strange world that was part science fiction, part fantasy. It was unlike any game I had ever seen before. In my friend David’s house, the pretence was to watch him play a video game. This usually involved stopping off at each others’ houses on the way and hanging about on any pretence. In the usual manner of children who are beginning to flex newfound freedom, we were finding reasons to make this journey last as long as we could. I was 10 years old and my friends and I had recently been allowed by our parents to walk home from school by myself. It all began in an unassuming terraced house in Beckenham, England.
